The Metzeler Connection – Master of the Roads
Metzeler isn’t just a sponsor; they are the Official Tyre Partner of the Isle of Man TT. Their “Road Racing” DNA is baked into their tyres, developed specifically to handle the bumps, manhole covers, and extreme temperature changes of the 37.73-mile Mountain Course.
The Stars of the Show
When you watch the TT, you’re watching the world’s best athletes trust their lives to two patches of rubber. In recent years, Metzeler riders have dominated the podium. Key names to watch include:
Davey Todd: The man of the moment. After a historic Senior TT win, Todd continues to prove that his combination of BMW power and Metzeler grip is almost unbeatable.
Dean Harrison: Known for his incredibly smooth style, Harrison is a regular on the podium and recently took double wins in the Superstock class using Metzeler rubber.
John McGuinness MBE: The “Morecambe Missile” and legend. Even with 23 TT wins under his belt, McGuinness still relies on Metzeler for his factory Honda campaign.
James Hillier & Dom Herbertson: Both fan favourites and members of the elite “130mph Club,” these riders are often seen at the Metzeler paddock hub meeting fans.
Staying at the Metzeler TT Village
If you want to live and breathe the races, the Metzeler TT Village is widely considered the ultimate base camp. Located at the Cronkbourne Sports and Social Club in Douglas, it sits just 400 meters from the iconic Bray Hill – one of the most terrifying and spectacular places to watch the bikes bottom out at high speed.
Why Book the Village?
Glamping Comfort: Forget roughing it. You stay in premium 5-meter Bell Tents equipped with real metal beds, warm duvets, and LED lighting.
The Hub of Activity: The village is famous for its “Rider Nights,” where stars like Davey Todd and John McGuinness stop by for interviews and autograph sessions.
Location: You are within walking distance of the TT Grandstand, the Paddock, and the Fan Park, making it easy to grab a pint and watch the podium celebrations.
How to Book for 2026
Booking for the Isle of Man TT usually opens a full year in advance, and the Metzeler Village is no exception.
Official Partner: Head to Metzeler TT Village website the official provider for the Metzeler TT Village.
Pricing: Prices typically start around £130 per night for a glamping pod (based on two people sharing).
Timing: For 2026, the races run from May 25th to June 6th. If you want to see the biggest races (the Senior TT), aim for the second week. If you want a more relaxed vibe with more track time, “Qualifying Week” is the island’s best-kept secret.
Pro Tips for Your Visit
The Ferry is Key: The Steam Packet ferry is the only way to bring your own bike. These slots often sell out 12 months in advance. If you miss a bike slot, consider flying and using the island’s excellent (and free for many package holders) bus and steam train network.
The “Metzeler Bridge”: Staying at the village gives you easy access to the pedestrian bridge, allowing you to cross the track even when the roads are closed for racing.
